Jetwing Travels in collaboration with several Jeep Operators in the country piloted a program to train and recognise Safari Jeep Drivers to reform their attitudes towards tourists & to enlighten them on how best they can contribute to giving a memorable experience to valued guests.
On 30th November 2019, a development program for the aforementioned Safari Jeep Drivers was conducted at Asnahara Village in Habarana, with the participation of almost 50 drivers.
Jetwing Travels is the only DMC that initiated learning & development programs for Safari Jeep Drivers in the country, emerging as the first of its kind to provide such an initiative, since this segment of drivers often do not possess an opportunity nor guidance from the many institutions in the country to attend training to develop themselves.
Jetwing Travels’ Head of HR, emphasized the fact that jeep drivers should first come into the utmost realization that each of them are undertaking a vital role, which is merely assisting a guest to spend a holiday serenely & more importantly experience the treasured wildlife of Sri Lanka, whilst also directly contributing to bringing in foreign currency to the country.
Furthermore, our Quality Assurance Manager also briefed on the importance of enhancing vehicle conditions, safety standards, safe driving, cleanliness & dress code. Emphasizing not only on the techniques necessary to develop a proficient level of skill and experience but also how to drive off-road without causing damage or undue stress to the vehicle and its passengers.
The training program also hosted one of our organization’s most experienced naturalists in the country, Mr. Chaminda Jayasekera from Jetwing Vil Uyana, to deliver a presentation on the many wildlife in the localities of Habarana & Sigiriya. The detailed presentation provided insight into many other species of wildlife in the country namely the Wild Cats, Fishing Cats, Otter & Owls also found in the locality of Habarana. The briefing was concluded conveying a valued message on the importance of how one may steer their vehicles in the wild without disturbing the many life forms & the natural habitats of these wild animals.
Under the guidance of our experienced instructors, at each stage one has the opportunity to practice the techniques and improve their skills from experiencing different training in different conditions. The program was concluded awarding all participants certificates confirming their successful participation in the program.
