This morning you will be driven to the Cultural Triangle - the ancient heart of Sri Lanka. From here you can explore Polonnaruwa, Dambulla, & Sigiriya.

Relax at the hotel and in the afternoon at 4.00p.m set off to climb the spectacular rock fortress of Sigiriya, with its rocky abode & water gardens. Sigiriya is famous for its toadstool of golden-hued granite, protruding into the searing blue sky from a hot, flat wilderness of scrubland, which is transformed in the rainy season to a water garden. In the 5th century King Kashyapa domesticated the Lions Rock, by building a palace atop its summit. Sigiriya commemorates some of the turbulence of Sri Lanka’s history.

This morning you will visit the Ancient city of Polonnaruwa an ancient royal capital, with its well-preserved 12th century ruins & impressive stone culture recalls an inspired past.
(Optional: A great way to explore the ancient city is on a bicycle – these can be rented) – Don’t forget to enjoy a drink of “Belimal” with a piece of jaggery (a hard brown sweet)
Return to the hotel and just relax and enjoy a swim at the lovely swimming pool or simply read a book while enjoying the breeze from the paddy fields around or explore the surrounding area in buggies.

Today for dinner you may try Sri Lankan rice and curry usually includes a variety of small spiced dishes made from vegetables, meat or fish. They’re generally served with accompaniments like chutney and sambol – a term that describes any condiment made from ingredients pounded with chilli.

Today on the way to Kandy in the morning visit the beautiful Dambulla cave temple, the largest cave monastery in the country with a history going back to the 1st century BC.

On the way you could also stop off at a Spice Garden in Matale. There are several directly on the way to Kandy and arrive at Jetwing Hunasfalls.

At 11.45a.m you will catch the train from Kadugannawa and will reach Nanu Oya at around 3.30p.m. Your tickets will be for the special observation carriage - a magical way to see the country side & experience local hill villages. Note: This is a simple train however a wonderful experience. Your driver will be waiting for you at Nanu Oya (with your luggage) and will take you to Jetwing St Andrews, Nuwara Eliya where you will be taken back in time surrounded by all the old world charm and quaint details of a Tudor mansion in the hills.
