Kandy Sri Lanka`s second city encompasses so much. Most importantly, it is the site of one of the world’s most hallowed places of Buddhist worship and was the last capital of the Sinhalese kingdom. It is the epitome of Sri Lankan culture, tucked in to a lush valley embraced by verdant mountains located in the heart of the islands hill country. It hosts a world famous pageant the Kandy “Esala Perahera” which is one of Sri Lanka’s seven UNESCO World Heritage sites. The pageant itself is one of spectacular colour involving the parading of elephants, drummers, traditional dances, fire jugglers & dances and a host more all to the exciting tune of traditional drums and music.

The Kandy Esala Perahara consists of two main elements. The Kumbal Perahera which goes on for the first five days dedicated to the four guardian Hindu gods, Natha, Vishnu, Katharagama & Pattini and then the Randoli Perahera which is an expanded version on the Kumbal Perahera in which palanquins are added to bring out more glamour.
