Sri lanka is prominent for excellent spices and tea from colonial times, main reason for Europeans & Muslims to visit the island. Have your self a break and let the chefs do the cooking for you according to your taste.

Given below is the sample itinerary. We look forward to welcoming you soon in Sri Lanka.

Day 01

Transfer to Sigiriya (approx 4 ½ hrs drive)

Rest of the day at leisure .

Overnight stay at Hotel Sigiriya(3*) - Sigiriya

Day 02

Breakfast at the Hotel thereafter proceed to Dambulla and visit the Local Market to buy fresh vegetable and poultry. You can buy any “American Oyster”/ “Butani” or Abalone mushrooms enough for a curry for the “Buffet” with Eastern & Western Dishes. Collect Chinese Cabbage, Butter Beans, Carrots, Leaks, Bamboo shoots (tin), Baby Corn and Shitake or Button mushrooms to make a Chinese vegetable Chopsue. The chef will demonstrate to you to make a Mushroom curry, Sweet & Sour Pork curry, Chicken & black bean curry with cadjunuts and chillie paste with Kunissa.

For dessert you can enjoy a Segu (Savu) & Juggery pudding. (Cost not included in the package)

Or you may also enjoy plucking your own vegetables at the hotel farm in Sigiriya and enjoy a typical Sri Lankan lunch according to your choice.

Afternoon climb the Sigiriya Rock Fortress.

On completion return back to the hotel.

Day 03

After breakfast proceed to Dambulla and visit the Dambulla Cave Temples (approx 15 min drive from Sigiriya)

Thereafter proceed to Elkaduwa (approx 1 ½ hrs drive). E n-route visit a Spice Garden to see all the spice trees, plants and creepers used to produce spices in Sri Lanka and exported to other countries, here you can listen to a talk on the use of spices in our curries and buy your stock of spices to add Sri Lankan flavor to your cookery. The secret in the flavor of Sri Lankan food is mainly due to these spices. You may also enjoy a typical Sri Lankan lunch. (Cost not included in the package)

At Hunas Falls Hotel you can hire fishing rods and do some fishing at the Lake . You will get large Chinese Carp and Tillappia Fish (Tilappia Mozambica & T. Naylotica) mainly. You can use the fish for your cooking; the Hotel Chef will demonstrate how to fillet them and to fry them in the deep fryer.

You can use some of the spices you purchased to make “Molagatanni Soup ” which is made of spices mixed with water using boiled rice or pieces of toast bread to mix in the soup.

You can go to the Hotel Farm and collect some of the vegetables (Beans, Carrots, Green Cabbage leaves, Leaks for boiling) and go to the jungle with the Farm Helper to collect wild Red / Yellow berries for the desert and collect dwarf wild straw berries in small branches with leaves to garnish your desert.

You can enjoy the food you have prepared for your dinner.

Overnight stay at Jetwing Hunas Falls (4*) – Kandy ( Elkaduwa)

Day04

After breakfast leave for Nuwara Eliya via Kandy . In Kandy visit Hantana Estate where you could visit the Tea Museum of Sri Lanka, See the original hand-operated machinery used at Loolkondura Estate for tea production along with other items exhibited for the history of tea in Sri Lanka . Also visit Tea Research Station at Hantana for middle grown tea research.

After Lunch visit the Royal Botanical Gardens Peradeniya to see more than 4,000 spices of trees and plants including 5 Palm Avenues and Palm section where more than 150 different spices are found. Remember to visit the Orchid house, Fern and Foliage Sections and the spice section of the Gardens where you can see many spice trees from around the World.

Thereafter proceed to Nuwara Eliya via Galaha and en-route visit Loolkondura Estate where the first Tea Plantation was started in 1867 by James Taylor. The first shipment of tea from Sri Lanka was in 1872 in two small packs containing 23 pounds valued at Rs 58/-. Today we export more than 280million Kilograms and Sri Lanka is the largest exporter of tea in the World. You can see some of the original tea plants planted by James Taylor.

Day 05

Visit Pedroo Tea Estate, obtain a tea plucking cane basket and enjoy plucking tea leaves for fun and also enjoy watching the Tea plucking ladies at their work.

Thereafter proceed to Colombo .

Overnight stay at Galle Face Hotel (Regency) – (Colonial) - Colombo

Day 06

After breakfast proceed for a city tour of Colombo .

* COLOMBO – is the business and commercial center and the new capital is Sri Jayawardhanapura Kotte, only a few miles away.

Colombo was only a small seaport, which came into prominence in the 16 th Century with the arrival of the Portuguese in 1505 and the development of it as a major Harbour took place during the British period. Colombo became the capital of Sri Lanka in 1815 after Kandyan Kingdom was ceded to the British.

The remains of the buildings during the period of the Portuguese, Dutch and British rule are found in every area of the city.

None of the Portuguese & Dutch fortifications are found today but some of their buildings and churches could be seen in the Fort & Pettah areas.

Visit Fort, the former British administrative center and military garrison, Sea Street - the Goldsmith's quarters in the heart of Pettah, the Bazaar area where there is also a Hindu Temple with elaborate stone carvings, the Kayman's Gate with the Belfry at the original gate to enter the Fort, the Dutch Church of Wolfendhaal dating back to 1749, Kelaniya Buddhist Temple dating to 6 th C.B.C., Davatagaha Mosque, Colombo Museum and the Natural History Museum are some of the sites to be visited. Also visit the BMICH ( Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall ), see the replica of Avukana Buddha in front and the Independence Memorial.

If time permits you may also do some shopping in Colombo as it is a shopping paradise for shoppers who always enjoy a good bargain on quality clothes and fashion accessory items.

A visit to ODEL Unlimited provides ample opportunity to indulge, not only in shopping for designer wear apparel for the whole family and a visit to Stone ‘N' String the famous fashion jewelry shop to choose from a vast selection of unique, attractive and affordable innovative fashion jewelry, mostly made of corals and various types of stones. And also d iscover yourself at Barefoot the famous shopping point for toys, bags, clothes, handloom fabric, Sarongs, Sarees, household linen, art, photography, books, furniture and Galary Caf é. Finally visit House of Fashion , a large four story mall, which has a wide variety of apparel, handbags, luggage and home décor at very reasonable prices. Their lingerie department too is well worth a visit. Of cause you have to pay more for the real thing, which is also available at selected stores, but if you don't mind a look-alike, some excellent options are available.

On completion you may proceed to Negombo en-route visit a fully computerized state of the art Tea Factory Closer to Colombo . Here you may witness the tea grading process and how the tea is being packed in to small packs which finally reaches the consumer.

On completion of the Tea Factory tour you may proceed to Negombo for your overnight stay.

Day 07

Early morning go with a Chef of the Hotel to the “Lellama” where the fish caught by thousands of fishing boats are brought ashore and sold by auction to the highest bidder. Buy your fish for lunch to be cooked later at the hotel.

Suggested types are “Karalla” a small flat silver fish for ma king a delicious fish soup, Shrimps for a Prawn Cocktail, Giant Tiger Prawns or Large Negombo Lagoon Crabs – the best in Asia exported live to Singapore , Hong Kong , Germany and many other countries, of course the hotel chef will demonstrate how to make the soup, Shrimp Cocktail with Avacado. Baked Crab or Sizzling Giant Prawn dishes for lunch. (Cost not included in the package)

Enjoy your lunch with the Chef, and sample the deliciousness of what you have cooked.

In the evening you can go to a short distance in the sea in an Outrigger Boat with Sails (Catamaran) and engage in fishing for Silver Herrings or if the Sea is rough during your stay in Negombo you may do a boat ride in the Dutch Canal or the Lagoon.

Optional -Or visit the “Ayurveda Pavilion” in front of the Hotel for a herbal body message for muscle relaxation and stress relief. (Cost not included in the package)
