Watalappam is a delicious baked custard made of jaggery, eggs and coconut milk with a liberal dose of cardamom and cloves. The thin golden brown film on top is by itself a delight.  

The most common and the country’s perennial desert of the rich, poor and middle class alike is Buffalo Curd with Treacle.  

The jaggery used traditionally is made from the Kitul palm tree that is not refined. It is not industrially processed and hence hard to come by. Jaggery made of the coconut palm is readily available and is a good substitute, however not the same as that of the Kitul palm tree. The treacle served with curd too comes from both the Kitul Palm which is rare and the Coconut palm.
